  • what does one do with a baby 5 months old who screams all the time when riding in the car? this has been going on since birth, and is vey stressful for the parents, and also unsafe for the driver. otherwise he is a content baby . he isn't very content in the stroller either. i am a grandma trying to find some answers for our daughter. thank you witch ga

  • Hello witch-ga, I know it all too well! From my own experience the baby may be either hungry, thirsty or tired and cries out for mother for comfort. So feeding baby before travel can be wise. It helps if the baby seat is of the type that faces the mother so baby has eye contact, though may not always be possible due to the child seat design. If both parents are in the front seat facing forwards, and baby is in the back facing the back of a seat, it can get pretty lonely back there! If baby has something to play with for entertainment that keeps them preoccupied. A blanket or piece of clothing with mothers 'scent' on, suggests to the baby that mother is around. It also helps if the the parents can play soothing 'baby' music, nursery rhymes for example, which baby enjoys, as baby may be irritated by the parents choice of music, e.g. playing heavy metal. (it maybe tricky finding that magic track) I still play children's music in my car, the same tape over and over again, and I can tell you it's not very 'cool' or 'hip' especially with the windows wound down! but it keeps the younger one happy. However all babies are individual. • I'm wondering if he would be happier lying down. That was the case with one of my daughters at the same age.
