Customers who have booked their flights on aircanada.com can now add two of our most popular À La Carte features: access to Air Canada's Maple Leaf Lounges (where available), or a savings voucher for our Onboard Café, exchangeable towards snacks, drinks and hot meals (where available)! These ticket add-ons can now be bought up to 24 hours before the flight's departure.
To access your booking and add either option:
From the “View/Change My Booking” page, please enter your booking reference number and your last name. (You will then be required to verify your identity by providing the credit card number used for booking.)
When the reservation is retrieved, select the 'Customize my Flight' option.
Select the options you'd like to add and confirm your purchase.
The new items are listed, along with their fees; a note that you have purchased these options is added to your ticket.
If one is an elite then of course PP has less attraction. However, not all of us get to jet around the world in business on business to become elite flyers. I likely wouldn't have bothered paying for PP normally but since it's still a free Diners cardholder perk it does come in handy now and then.
My earlier thoughts are on the link, below, and add a la carte MLL access and premium AVOD to that list now.

Premium (read: paid) MLL services are under discussion, too.
The move to sell pillows/blankets a few years ago was the opening salvo in this regimented 'fundraising' drive.
Isn't AC's aim to make $$?
If they can make an extra $25 per pax to use their MLL's, then why not!^

Thanks, for the information.
If one flies exclusively on a Star Alliance airline, and if one is Star Alliance Gold member, I therefore see no reason that PP membership would be of benefit, anywhere in the world.
On the rare occasion that I may wish to fly on a Sky Team airline between USA and Canada or within USA, my AMEX Platinum card would get me into those lounges.
Just my two cents...
They were in the program briefly about 3 or 4 years ago. Only lasted a year though for some reason
No, realtively few: KLM + AA lounges at YYZ, Plaza Premium Lounge in both Domestic and Int. terminals at YVR + AS, Chinook Lounge at YYC and the Capital Lounge at YOW. It does come into it's own in the U.S. and in major overseas hubs.

$25 is a steal when a pint is $6-$7 outside the MLL and one could easily put back 4-5 before a flight :D

And if you have 1, 2, or more connections, it's even more of a steal, as it covers the entire day.
They were in the program [Priority Pass] briefly about 3 or 4 years ago. Only lasted a year though for some reason
Someone in the brain trust did not realize before they signed up that by program rules, MLLs were to admit PP members regardless of what airline they were flying. AC staff took it upon themselves to deny access to PP members who were not flying AC, particularly if they were flying WestJet.
Just my two cents...
Because access to MLLs is for people flying AC (and STAR carriers), not its competition. To open it up to anyone with a PP defeats the exclusivity. Why should AC provide a lounge for a WS customer? Or transborder for a DL, AA or NW traveler? AC still keeps access somewhat exclusive because Latitude fares are high and often bought by non-status or Prestige members who would appreciate not having to pruchase an annual MLL membership at almost $400. (And same goes for Tango+ fares which are still not the rock bottom paid by the "rabble".)
I see nothing wrong with this decision to permit such purchases, or for not being a PP participant. (Also, is it not healthy to permit PP and Servisair -- along with WS -- to develop an alternative set of lounges at Canadian airports for just your type of non-elite/non-aligned traveler?) This is what the Ottawa airport authority wanted to do to.
Just my two cents...
